LomoAmigos Flora Cash: Unplugged at Lomography Gallery Store NYC

Our LomoAmigos, the Swedish folk duo Flora Cash, have an amazing story. They met when Shpresa connected with Cole on Soundcloud, enchanted by both his voice and his lyrics, and the relationship quickly expanded to Skype dates and musical collaboration. Now, they are married and working together to make songs so charged with the energy of love it gives you goosebumps.

When we found out that Flora Cash was going to be in the US, crossing the country together with their Lomo’Instant Wide and eventually ending in New York City, we invited them to visit the Lomography Gallery store for a special performance. In the spirit of analogue, we asked them to play a completely unplugged set, and that’s exactly what they did! Here’s what they had to say about the experience.

On the Lomo’Instant Wide

Shpresa: “Most fun and awesome camera I’ve ever had! It was such a great feeling to snap a photo and then be able to hold it in my hand right after.”

Cole:“I really really enjoyed shooting with the Lomo’instant Wide as well. For me there was definitely a feeling a nostalgia harkening back to the old Polaroid days. It’s really nice not being able to snap like 10 pictures in a row and choosing the best one as so often happens in the digital realm. I also like the fact that you don’t know for sure how the photo is going to look until it prints out and the image finally appears. It presents really interesting limitations that ultimately make the photo-taking experience more visceral.”

On performing at the Lomography Gallery Store, completely unplugged and analogue

Shpresa: “It was a different feeling. I really loved it. It had a more “homey” vibe than a typical performance; like we were in our own living room with a huge crowd of friends.”

Cole: “It was magical. Honestly, I really like the idea of playing music in an analogue way. It sparks this beautiful tension and intimacy between performer and audience and we definitely felt that in the room that night. It’s a form of performance that really demands the attention and cooperation of the audience and I’m so grateful that our audience was a class act in that regard. Would do it again anytime and hope to see it become more common.”

On having the same partner in life and music

Shpresa: “It’s awesome to be able to work on the thing I love most with the one I love most.”

Cole: “I agree. I also love the fact that our relationship itself sparks so much creative material that we can then process together through our writing. It becomes a kind of “couple’s therapy.” Which means it’s not always butterflies and roses, but it’s developmental and it’s real.”
