What Type of Camera Are You?: A Quiz to Find Your Inner Camera

Inspired by @andie_sollmer ’s “The Analogue Quiz: What Camera Are You?” article, I have created a quiz for finding your perfect camera type! Find out what you should be shooting with after the jump.

Just answer these simple questions to find out once and for all what type of camera you should be using. Remember to tally up your ABCDEs for your final result!

1. It’s morning and you are awake. Your bag is packed with all of your essential photography gear, but there is space for one more thing. What would it be?

a) A little box to keep photos safe in, probably a pretty one with flowers on it.
b) An extra wide neck strap for my big and heavy camera for when my neck hurts later!
c) One more spare lens (as if I don’t have enough already), just in case!
d) Extra film. After all, I am going to be snapping away like crazy today!
e) My metering and range cheat sheet because I want my photos to be perfect!

2. You stop at an ice cream stand during your adventures. Which flavor will you choose?

a) Whatever I can get fastest, Mister Ice Cream Stand Man, I am in a hurry! (He chooses strawberry for you, because everyone likes strawberry.)
b) Double chocolate chip! One scoop on top of the other, it looks twice as good!
c) Hmm, let me take a closer look, I want to see exactly what I am getting… Vanilla.
d) (Points vaguely) Any of those will do, sir. (Ends up with something yellow, hopefully lemon.)
e) One of each, please, my good sir. I want to try the full range!

3. An old man falls over at the street, quite near you. What will you do?

a) Run straight at him to help. Then take a selfie with him.
b) OMG. What if he broke his hip? I need a low angle photo of this to document it. Then help him.
c) Let me just get my tripod out to set the self-timer so I could get a shot of myself helping him up. That’s gonna look great!
d) Point and laugh. Come on, it’s pretty funny. And I’m sure he’ll be ok.
e) He’s about, err, 15 feet away. Someone else will help him.

4. You are late for the last train home. Seriously, what are you going to do?

a) Run, I need to get there quicker than quick!
b) Stop, head to a pub, and order a double of something strong. I may be here for a while.
c) Think about this, focus, get some perspective. I must be about to see another way home.
d) Just keep plodding along at a good pace. You are going the right way, it should be fine.
e) Work out how far you have to go and how long you have, then just get there in time to mount the train like a boss.

5. You are reading a book. How is that going for you?

a) Gah, I can’t wait. I’m just going to skip to the end for the final result!
b) I think I know what’s going on. Third person perspectives confuse me.
c) It’s like I’m in the hero’s head. I see what he sees, we are one!
d) I took a photo of the book and it came out fuzzy.
e) I’m just looking forward to the sequels.

6. It is dinner time. What is for dinner?

a) A microwave dinner. I want results quick!
b) My favorite takeaway, in a box, directly at my door.
c) An old family recipe. I know exactly what I’m doing!
d) Whatever is in the fridge: mustard, tuna, an old baguette, some cheese.
e) I’ll try something from that recipe book I got last Christmas. Just follow the instructions and hope for the best.

If you answered mostly A, then you are an Instant Camera! You want to see results fast and don’t have time for complications.

If B make up the majority of your answers, then you are a TLR camera. You like to have a good idea of what you are doing and get great results.

Did you answer C more than anything else? You are an SLR: you like to know exactly what you are looking at with the sharpest results. Control freak.

If you were drawn to the answers labelled D, then you are a Point & Shoot kind of person. More about capturing the moment than making the perfect photo. Good for you.

And last but not least, those of you whom insisted on E are the Rangefinders. You check your settings, then check them again. You may even own a tape measure.
