Reviewing the Olympus AF-10
4 19 Share TweetThe Olympus AF-10 is an all-automatic point and shoot camera that takes care of things for you as a photographer, allowing you to concentrate on what you do best: shooting.
At first glance, the AF-10 is your typical point-and-shoot camera. It is small, though not as slim as other cameras of its generation, it can still fit in your jacket pocket nicely. It actually looks a lot like a shorter version of any of the Olympus XA series (with their respective flash units attached). It even has the same clamshell lens protector feature that the XA series is widely known for.
There's nothing much to think about when you use this camera. Since it recognizes DX codes, you don’t have to set the ISO upon loading the film. There is also no need to focus since it has an auto-focus system. You don’t even have to think about turning the flash on or off because you only have one option — auto flash. When you are through with your film, its auto-rewind mechanism will do the rewinding for you. So basically, there are only four things you have to do with it: load your film, slide open the lens protector, compose your shot (or don’t think), and shoot.
There is not much information about this camera on the internet, but I happened to find some of its technical specifications:
Lens: 35 mm f/3.5 lens
Focus: Autofocus
Exposure: Automatic
Film loading: Automatic winding and rewinding of the DX-coded film
Flash: Integral flash, automatic only
Power Source: 2 AAA alkaline batteries
Dimensions: 117 × 63 × 46 mm
Weight: 210 g
Others: Self-timer, tripod socket, quartz date function
Now for the best part, the results of my test rolls. Honestly, I wasn't expecting much but when the scans came back from the lab, I knew that it was indeed a great camera. The sharpness of the photos is a testament to the quality of the Olympus AF-10’s lens. Very nice huh?
