Reviewing the Olympus AF-10

The Olympus AF-10 is an all-automatic point and shoot camera that takes care of things for you as a photographer, allowing you to concentrate on what you do best: shooting.

At first glance, the AF-10 is your typical point-and-shoot camera. It is small, though not as slim as other cameras of its generation, it can still fit in your jacket pocket nicely. It actually looks a lot like a shorter version of any of the Olympus XA series (with their respective flash units attached). It even has the same clamshell lens protector feature that the XA series is widely known for.

There's nothing much to think about when you use this camera. Since it recognizes DX codes, you don’t have to set the ISO upon loading the film. There is also no need to focus since it has an auto-focus system. You don’t even have to think about turning the flash on or off because you only have one option — auto flash. When you are through with your film, its auto-rewind mechanism will do the rewinding for you. So basically, there are only four things you have to do with it: load your film, slide open the lens protector, compose your shot (or don’t think), and shoot.

Now for the best part, the results of my test rolls. Honestly, I wasn't expecting much but when the scans came back from the lab, I knew that it was indeed a great camera. The sharpness of the photos is a testament to the quality of the Olympus AF-10’s lens. Very nice huh?

I recently picked up an Olympus Infinity Jr a lot like this camera! Can't wait to develop the first roll on it.

I picked up one for €3 from a flea market! To my surprise, there was a partially shot film roll inside (some family pictures). I like how lightweight the whole thing is, and with an excellent lens. Here's one the shots from my first roll with my AF-10: www.instagram.com/p/BVHmi2xjyAN/?taken-by=mmatiasautio
