The leaves gave their spectacular color show, ripe persimmons were still barely dangling from limbs overhead, and passersby crushed fallen ginkgo berries under their shoes without a worry in the world. The sun looked free in the expanse of aquamarine and all those under it basked in its generous warmth. It was no day to be inside. The streets were inundated and energy was high and well, but everyone seemed to know and could sense the anvil of winter beginning to fall. Autumn was on the verge of its demise...

With my trusty Nikon F3 and a roll of Fujicolor 100 quickly slung in, I ventured to north Seoul without much of a plan. I simply wanted to be outside in order to relish the final hours of autumn and perhaps snap a few cool photos if I got lucky.

After exiting the subway, I took an easy stroll around Gyeongbokgung Palace along its towering border wall and I quickly noticed that there was hardly anyone around. Where was the previous surge of eager people that I had witnessed around the city attempting to enjoy this advantageous day? It had baffled me, but it didn't impede me from meeting a few locals and sharing some freshly brewed makgeolli paired with exquisite Korean cuisine. With a happy stomach and tranquil spirit, I continued my urban excursion until I reached an area called Insa-dong that was bustling with people. I quickly realized that this is where the majority in the area was congregating, and before I could pose a question to someone, a ceremonious procession began that was full of lively music, dance, and dress. What a fortuitous event! All those who participated in the procession were dressed beautifully in traditional Korean hanbok. It was great fun!

When the procession had concluded, I then ventured through various nearby neighborhoods snapping a few more photos until dusk. With autumn having come and gone, and a new year now beginning, I look back on this particular autumn afternoon and smile. This particular autumn day in Seoul was not lost, but was found amid whimsical wandering and unforeseen enjoyable events.

    Thanks so much, Eunice!
You should definitely try to visit South Korea. You can very easily rent yourself a Hanbok of your choice and visit all the palaces in traditional-style. It is great fun, and can also make for some awesome photos :)
