Good evening,
It's late, I'm tired but put this off far too long. When I first read your comment, I had to think, Umm, how the hell did I do that? Well, it's all digital manipulation. From a digital early morning shot (like 5:30 a.m.) and what I look at on the big monitor is drab, uninspiring. No detail on the birds, no colour, jusr a monochrome blah. So first I did a hue shift. Then use a selection tool on the birds, this one captures all the shades of the object, not always perfect. Thus, when I do a inversion of the selections, I end up with mostly white birds that were black. Last I add a lens flare filter effect to similuate a hazy sun.
I use a Linux tool called Gimp, GNU Graphic Image Manulation Program, somewhat like Photoshop but free. It's been ported to Windows and Apple Mac also.
